CP Pallets: Choosing the Right Size for Chemical Logistics

A detailed look at the CP pallet range and how to select the optimal size for drums, IBCs, and chemical containers.

What Are CP Pallets?

CP (Chemical Pallet) pallets are standardized wooden pallets developed specifically for the chemical industry. Created by the European chemical industry association (APME, now PlasticsEurope), these pallets are designed to safely transport drums, IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers), and other chemical containers.

Unlike EUR pallets which have a single standard size, CP pallets come in nine different variants (CP1 through CP9), each optimized for specific container types and load requirements.

Why Choose CP Pallets for Chemical Transport?

Safety First

Designed to prevent spillage and container damage during transport and storage.

Perfect Fit

Each CP size matches specific container dimensions for optimal stability.

Industry Standard

Recognized across the European chemical industry for interoperability.

Heavy-Duty Construction

Built to handle the weight of chemical containers up to 2000 kg.

Selecting the Right CP Pallet

For 200L Drums

Recommended: CP3 or CP8 - The 1140 x 1140 mm dimensions perfectly accommodate four 200-liter drums arranged in a 2x2 pattern, providing excellent stability and efficient use of space.

For IBCs (1000L Containers)

Recommended: CP9 - With its 2000 kg load capacity and 1140 x 1140 mm footprint, CP9 is ideal for fully loaded IBCs. The extra strength ensures safe handling of these heavy containers.

For Smaller Drums (20-60L)

Recommended: CP1 or CP5 - These smaller formats efficiently handle multiple small drums while maintaining stability during transport.

For Euro-Compatible Systems

Recommended: CP2 - At 800 x 1200 mm, CP2 matches EUR pallet dimensions, making it ideal for operations that need to integrate with standard European logistics systems.

Quality and Safety Considerations

When sourcing CP pallets for chemical logistics, ensure they meet these requirements:

  • ISPM 15 heat treatment for international shipping
  • No chemical treatment that could contaminate loads
  • Structural integrity - no cracked boards or loose nails
  • Clean and dry condition to prevent contamination
  • Proper markings and documentation

Important Safety Note

Always verify that your CP pallets are suitable for the specific chemicals being transported. Some hazardous materials may require additional certifications or pallet specifications.
